Trauma Talks – June 8, 2018 – Toronto, ON
This workshop reviewed what is known about trauma among LGBTQ+ populations. We presented findings from two Ontario-based studies. Grounded in this knowledge, we explored practical strategies to improve the mental health care of LGBTQ+ people through a trauma-informed lens. This interactive workshop taught participants: (1) To describe experiences of trauma common within LGBTQ+ communities and ways therapists can make trauma therapy more accessible; (2) To list and identify behaviours that LGBTQ+ people may experience as harmful in their therapy; and (3) To demonstrate increased awareness of, and skills in implementing, practical steps to improve therapists’ practice with LGBTQ+ individuals.
